Located on the shores of Lake Chatuge, tucked away in the beautiful NC mountains, Chatuge Shores is a semi-private facility offering one of the best golf experiences in the area. Meausring at 6,498 yards from back tee, the course is a challenge for playing at all experience levels. This course offers other amenities like a driving ranges, fully stocked pro shop, putting greens, swimming pool, tennis courts and the Greenside Grill. .
Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds – Hiawassee, GA (8 miles from Sundowner)
The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds plays host to several popular annual events including the Georgia Mountain Fair, the Superstar Concert Series, the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival and Georgia’s Official State Fiddler’s Convention. Located along the shores of beautiful Lake Chatuge in the north Georgia mountain community of Hiawassee it is only two hours from Atlanta, Greenville, Asheville and Chattanooga. Alpine Helen – Helen, GA (29 miles from Sundowner)
This Northeast Georgia village has a rich history linked to the Cherokee Indians and Indian burial mounds as well as early settlers who arrived to mine for gold and cut virgin timber for a thriving lumber industry in the early 1900s. Pickleball
This is a paddle sport (similar to a racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.[2] Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball , over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid 1960s as a children's backyard pastime but has become one of America's most popular growing sports among all ages.
Appalachian Trail - Trailhead at Springer Mountain, GA (17 miles from Sundowner)
The AT is a marked hiking trail in the eastern United States extending between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine.[1] The total length is approximately 2,200 miles (3,500 km)[a]. The trail passes through the states of Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Jackrabbit Mountain Bike and Hiking Trail Project (3.3 Miles from Sundowner):
Since 2003, SABA has been collaborating with the USFS and the Clay County Communities Revitalization Association to develop a trail system off of Jackrabbit Road in Clay County, NC. This is located on a peninsula on beautiful Lake Chatuge, on the NC/GA border.
Close to 15 miles of machine constructed singletrack trails are complete and based on a stacked-loop design.
Anna Ruby Falls (.4 miles in length)
Directions: From Sundowner, South on NC 69, left onto Hwy76 E, through town, turn right onto GA75 South toward Helen. You will cross over the Appalachian Trail. Almost to Helen, turn left on GA356 for 1.5 miles, then go left at the entrance road to the falls. (This is a fee area, but there are bathrooms, a visitor center, a nature trail for the blind and gift shop).
Blood Mountain Falls & Falls on Waters Creek
Directions: From Sundowner, South on NC69, take Hwy76 West toward Blairsville, in Blairsville take Hwy 129 South to Turner’s Corner (Hwy. 19/129), go west on Hwy19 approximately 1/2 mile to Waters Creek Recreation Area. Turn right and travel approximately 2.8 miles and park in the lot to the right. Across the road is a path to the viewing area.
Dukes Creek Falls (.8 mile in length)
Directions: From Sundowner, South on NC 69, Hwy 76 East through town, turn right onto GA75 South toward Helen. Almost to Helen, turn right onto GA 356 (75 Alternate) and go 2.3 miles to the Richard Russell Scenic Byway. Turn right onto it and go two miles to the Dukes Creek Falls Recreation Area on your left
Helton Creek Falls (.3 mile in length– moderate)
Directions: From Sundowner, South on NC 69, take Hwy 76 W toward Blairsville, in Blairsville take Hwy 129 South for 11 miles. Turn left on the first gravel road past the entrance to Vogel State Park. Go 2.2 miles to a small pullout parking area and the trailhead will be on the right.
High Shoals Falls (1.2 miles in length-moderate)
Directions: From Sundowner, South on NC 69, take Hwy 76 East through town, turn right onto GA 75 South toward Helen, pass the turn for Brasstown Bald, look on your left for the High Shoals sign, you are turning onto F. S, Road 283. Go 1.5 miles on this road to the High Shoals Scenic Area for parking.
Raven Cliff Falls (2.5 miles in length)
Directions: From the Sundowner, South on NC 69, Hwy 76 East through town, turn right onto GA 75 South toward Helen. Almost to Helen, turn right onto GA 356 (75 Alternate) and go 2.3 miles to the Richard Russell Scenic Byway. Turn right onto it and go 2.8 miles to the trailhead and parking area.

Rockcrusher Farm - Hayesville, NC (.5 miles from Sundowner)
Rockcrusher Farm is situated on over 560 acres in Georgia and North Carolina. This property is just beginning it’s development and currently offers a MX Track, Mini Track and a Woodland Track for Off Road Motorcycles, and ATVs. Tri-County Race Track - Brasstown, NC (19 miles from Sundowner)
Tri-County Race Track is the Saturday night place to be in the Tri-State area. This track is a 1/4 mile long dirt/clay track located in Brasstown, North Carolina. It brings the best in southern dirt track racing to the area every Saturday night. Mini Stock, Street Stock and Modified Street, Sportsman, Crate Late Model and Super Late Models are the six classes that race weekly.
SCENIC DRIVES
The best known road is The Tail of the Dragon which offers 318 curves in 11 miles, it is America's number one motorcycle and sports car road. The nearby CHEROHALA SKYWAY is quickly becoming number two with its remote 60 miles of scenic mountain highway. The area also has other incredible roads like the MOONSHINER 28, DEVILS TRIANGLE, THE DIAMONDBACK, SIX GAP NORTH GEORGIA, THE SNAKE and GREAT FOREST SERVICE DUAL SPORT RIDING.

The O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium opened in 1979 through the philanthropy of Wayne and Grace Rollins. This unique space features a state-of-the-art GOTO Chronos Space Simulator star projector, with high-speed, computer-calculated positioning, a simple click of a mouse sets the sky for any time in the past, present or future. Renovated in 2011 with comfortable seating for 104 under a 40-foot-diameter dome, Rollins Planetarium offers public shows and educational opportunities for school groups throughout the year.
